North Shore Alum, Daniel Mathews becomes Ohio State's first two-time AVCA First-team All-American

Ohio State men’s volleyball setter Daniel Mathews (Sr., Shorewood, Wis.) has been named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) first-team All-American as selected by the AVCA Division I-II Men’s Volleyball All-America Committee. A 2007 first-team selection, Mathews becomes Ohio State’s first two-time AVCA first-team All-American.

The 6-5 Mathews directed the Buckeye squad to a 20-7 overall record, winning the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association regular season championship with an 11-1 mark. He was named MIVA Player of the Year for the second consecutive year and has earned all-conference honors for the fourth time. Mathews was named the Most Valuable Player of the MIVA tournament, collecting the honor for the second time in his career (2005).

For the season, Mathews averages 12.19 assists per game and ranks second on the team in blocks and digs with 1.12 and 1.76 per game averages, respectively. He is third on the team in aces with 21, averaging .23 per game.
